Press Release

The Solstice Institute, a Boulder 501(c)3 dedicated to fostering health and transformation for a more harmonious society, will award twelve $2,000 grants to Boulder County non-profit organizations for projects or services that promote sustainable culture. The streamlined grant applications will be available online on the Summer Solstice, June 21st at www.sustainability.org with a submission deadline of September 21st, the Fall Equinox. The grants will be awarded at a Winter Solstice ceremony on December 21st, 2006. Funds for the grants are being provided by a private non-profit foundation.

In keeping with the 12 inter-related facets of a Sustainable Culture (see www.sustainability.org) the awards will be made to non-profit (501(c)3) organizations for projects or services that demonstrate participation in nurturing a more harmonious society. The 12 facets are: Family and Community; Health and Wellness; Agriculture and Food; Economics; Technology and Design; Media Communication; Government and Politics; Social Justice; Education; Values, Ethics and Spirit; Culture, Art and Myth; and Earth Stewardship.

Organizations may apply for funds for projects that serve more than one sector. For example, if an organization has projects that serve both the Earth Stewardship and Social Justice sectors, it may apply for a grant in each of these sectors, for a total of $4,000 to that organization. The Solstice Institute hopes to draw from a wide variety of non-profit organizations and plans to compile a Who's Who of Sustainable Culture in Boulder County. Grant applications are accessible at www.sustainability.org.
